Elbows Up!
Pine & Bedford's Elbows Up soap is made with our Everyday Lather formula, beginning with lovely bubbles and working into a rich, creamy lather that leaves skin feeling squeaky-clean.
Because Canadians like choices, Elbows Up comes in two fragrances: Fresh Fruit — a bright, fruity fragrance with a moderate scent.
It is also available in Soft Cotton — a clean, unisex fragrance, gently scented.
The design is the same for both versions, complete with a red maple leaf soap embellishment on top and a red maple leaf tucked inside at heart level.
We don't believe you should be able to smell your bathroom soap from the living room, so our soaps are always gently to moderately fragranced.
Each bar weighs approximately 4.5 oz / 128 g.
Why did we make this?
Don't get me wrong—I loved wintering in Florida. The sunshine was wonderful and the friendships we made there were priceless. I miss them dearly. But last winter, I found myself on the receiving end of one particular conversation a few too many times:
"So, you're going to be American soon!" Or its close cousin: "What do you think about Canada becoming the 51st state?"
If you're Canadian, you probably understand the amount of restraint required to smile sweetly and reply, "I don't think so."
When I returned home in the spring, I did what soap makers do: I channelled a little of that Canadian angst into soap. The original Elbows Up design had a red heart inside. For this batch, I changed it to a red maple leaf. It just seemed right.
Perhaps we're a little more conscious and appreciative these days of what it means to be Canadian—and a little more protective of that identity.
So this one's for our home and native land. 🇨🇦
