OPS - Old People Soap (Nonenal) with Kakishibu (Persimmon Fruit & Green Tea Extract)

Pine and Bedford introduces OPS (Old People Soap) a Nonenal soap; because sometimes it isn’t your deodorant. It’s your chemistry.

There’s a name for that subtle change in body scent that can happen as we get older: nonenal. Nonenal is a naturally occurring compound associated with changes in the oils on our skin as we age. It can create a distinctive, lingering scent that ordinary soap doesn’t always seem to address particularly well. So, naturally, we made a soap for it.

Because I am in my 60s I know exactly where this train is headed — and while I am perfectly happy to embrace getting older, I am not quite ready to embrace 'grandparent smell'.  At least not without a fight. 

Our Nonenal Soap begins with Pine & Bedford’s Everyday Lather formula and adds Kakishibu Powder — Japanese persimmon traditionally valued for its deodorizing properties — along with Green Tea Extract and Kaolin Clay.

Kakishibu is rich in naturally occurring tannins and has a long history of use in Japan, including in cleansing products designed to help manage persistent body odour. Kaolin clay provides gentle cleansing and helps lift oils and everyday buildup from the skin, while green tea extract brings its naturally occurring plant compounds to the bar. Unfortunatly it's expensive - which is why this is our most expensive soap.

The result is a lovely, creamy-lathering soap designed to leave skin feeling genuinely clean and fresh — without trying to cover everything up with a wall of perfume.

In fact, we deliberately kept the fragrance light. A fresh essential-oil blend of Bergamot, Sweet Orange and Tangerine gives the bar a soft, clean citrus finish. Enough to make your shower smell wonderful, but not so much that fragrance becomes the solution.

Because sometimes the best way to deal with an unwanted guest isn’t to spray air freshener. It’s to show them the door. Au revoir!

Why we made it: Bodies change. Skin changes. And yes — even the way we smell can change. We don’t think there is anything embarrassing about that. We simply think that when there is an ingredient traditionally used for exactly this kind of cleansing job, it makes sense to put it into a really good bar of soap.

OPS is a medium-sized bar that weighs approximately 125 g / 4.4 oz and measures approximately: Width: 5 cm / 2 inches. Height: 10 cm / 3.9 inches. Depth: 2.8 cm / 1.125 inches.
